Front-end Developer (12-month FTC)

at West Midlands Combined Authority

Salary: £32,657 - £37,109

Location: Birmingham City Centre

Deadline: 29 Mar 2020

We are looking for a motivated and highly skilled React developer to join our team.

About the team:

We are a multi-discipline team within the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). The team consists of UX/UI designers, multimedia designers and front-end developers.

We deliver a range of digital and print services for the organisation in a fast-paced environment. Our team vision is ‘creating better experiences together.’ We are collaborative, forward-thinking and open-minded.

We work to Government Design Principles and the Service Standard. We highly value user research and evidence-based design. We advocate for users with accessibility needs. This is for everyone. We share our knowledge with Government through blogs. We open-source our code.

About the role:

You will primarily develop services from wireframes and journeys supplied by UX/UI designers. Designers may come to you for advice on the technical feasibility of their designs. You will push boundaries to create excellent services that exceed expectations.

You will also analyse existing services: making services accessible to meet regulations or troubleshooting and fixing technical bugs, for example.

You will develop user interface components and work to best React practices. You will ensure you meet or exceed accessibility regulations.

You will bring your expertise to the table and help upskill other team members. You will be able to challenge and improve team processes – we’re open-minded.

About you:

You will have experience creating React-based digital services. You will be able to demonstrate this through links to services you have worked on. You will also be comfortable coding in HTML5 and CSS languages. You might have worked with jQuery and AJAX languages

You will be able to communicate effectively with other members of the team and internal clients. Communication is key.

You will be creating engaging user experiences, with structured code that is fast, scalable, reliable and robust. It is an exciting and stable environment.

You might have experience with Umbraco, our content management system.

About West Midlands Combined Authority:

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration. Individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships will still deliver services and retain their identity but on the big decisions we will have the resources to work together.

This is an exciting time for the West Midlands – the Commonwealth Games will be here in 2022, the arrival of HS2 will help make us a world class business location and a new £350m housing deal aims to deliver 215,000 new homes by 2031.

Against a backdrop of a uniquely challenging and evolving environment, we are looking for the right people to ensure we can meet the demands of delivering an ambitious agenda that aims to build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous West Midlands.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.
