Main purpose of the role

We are seeking a well experienced and proven Product Design Lead to join our team in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter to support and accelerate the visual redesign of our core product offering: PatientPack.

Reporting directly to our Head of Delivery, the Lead Product Designer will form a key part of our strategic delivery team, working to shape, create and deliver the future experience of our PatientPack product.

The core elements of this role will work on 3 areas of focus, creating a modular design system that can be used for our multi-platform application. These areas of focus are;

1 – Our users. At Substrakt Health we place great value on delivering a great end-user experience, and we are truly a user-centred delivery team. Therefore, applicants must be comfortable with getting close to our users, understanding their needs and goals, their frustration and challenges with our current product, and to create new experiences and solutions that resolve these needs.

2 – Our clients. We have a wide range of clients, each with nuanced ways of working and unique customer challenges that must be resolved with our application. Applicants must be comfortable and confident around our clients, working to identify not only their needs and goals but also the solutions that meet these needs,

3 – Our business. Substrakt Health is growing, as is our product set and the scope of services we seek to offer. Therefore, the applicant will form a key part of our Product delivery team, and work closely with our Product Manager to help define our product feature set that meets the needs of our users, our clients, whilst also being totally aligned to our wider business aspirations and goals.

Ideally, the person suited to this role will have worked in the definition and production of product design systems during their career, with a portfolio of products and services demonstrating this approach. This is a multi-platform role, and as such we are only seeking applicants with strong experience across web, mobile and iOS/Android platforms.

Working relationships

  • Work extremely closely with our Product Manager to help define, shape and delivery our future products and services
  • Work closely with our development, QA and support teams to ensure our Product Designs are ultimately delivered and communicated to our users and clients
  • Working with our support teams to ensure user feedback is captured and fed into product design improvements backlog for resolution
  • Working with our external partners to ensure they understand and successfully support the delivery of our product design system
  • Working closely with Senior Management to understand and align product design direction and delivery to overall business objectives and strategy
  • Work with New Business and Marketing teams to ensure our product design direction is clearly documented, communicated and understood by new and existing clients

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, own and deliver the full product design system for our PatientPack proposition –
    • This will entail creating an entire creative direction and asset library for our products – right from initial concepts through to detailed asset production
  • Work closely with our clients and users to understand their unmet needs and goals, and then to help define and create the solutions to these needs
  • To define, implement and own our approach to user engagement to test and validate our product design elements, and to identify UX improvements to be delivered into the product
  • Creation of design assets, such as Hi/Lo Fi Wireframes, Prototypes, Visual Assets, Design Library, etc to enable overall delivery of product design direction
  • Ensuring the business is kept informed of emerging design trends and opportunities, as well as assessing competitor products and services for future design considerations
  • Become the advocate of user-centred design and thinking for the organisation
  • Become the advocate of the Substrakt Healths design solution to our clients and external partners

Essential requirements & Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Proven experience  of digital product design and delivery
  • Experience of creating and owning a product design library, ranging from initial direction creation through to detailed asset delivery
  • Experience and understanding of working within an Agile environment for Digital Product management
  • Experience in planning and leading User engagement, user testing and feedback sessions to identify new user needs and product improvements
  • Ability to create rapid prototypes for quick testing and user feedback. Expected tools for this work include XD, UXPin, InVision, Sketch, Axure & Balsamiq, etc
  • Previous client-facing engagement and experience

Desirable requirements

  • Ideally understanding and exposure to the Healthcare sector
  • An understanding of Jobs To be Done & Business Model Canvas methodologies & associated Value Proposition creation would be an advantage
