Art House Open Lecture – Kate Genever

Mon 17 Jan 2022 , 4.30pm - 6.30pm

The Art House, University of Worcester, WR1 3HN

Artist and Educator Kate Genever considers drawing as a disposition, and how we improvise and imagine in response to immediate problems

Meadow Arts and the University of Worcester’s Fine Art department are pleased to present their seventh season of contemporary artists’ talks. Some of the most exciting contemporary artists currently making work in the UK will talk about their artwork, ideas and the processes they use, in talks taking place either at The Art House studios or online (selected talks).

Talks take place on selected dates at 4:30pm. Each artist will present their work, there’ll be an ‘in conversation’ session with them and Meadow Arts or the University of Worcester’s team and then there’ll be a space for public questions.

Kate Genever

It’s the fifth talk of the series, and Kate Genever will talk about the different aspects of her practice and the themes within it.

Kate Genever tries to make sense of the world through drawing.

They take drawing to be more than a technique -rather a disposition that reveals our connections with the world of materials and each other. A drawing from, with and together.

In places, over extended periods, Genever considers how we improvise and imagine in response to immediate problems. Be it in villages, refuges, caravan parks, lockdown… they build deep connections with people in the celebration and support of site-specific responses, DIY architectures and community actions.
