IE is the award-winning brand and digital agency for Charity, Health and Education. With a beautiful studio in the Jewellery Quarter, hybrid working, and a whole host of values-driven clients, this is a rare opportunity to join this leading Birmingham agency as a Junior Designer.

IE is also proud to be a certified B Corporation, joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.

The Role

As a Junior Designer, you’ll be working alongside IE’s talented brand and digital teams on a wide variety of projects. IE’s award-winning design work is specialised and varied, and we’re recognised as a sector leader for charity, health and education clients. We craft visual identities, design exciting multi-channel campaigns, deliver intuitive UI work for websites and apps, and create any number of outputs (from printed collateral to video and interactive media) as required by our clients.

This work is led by IE’s Creative Director and Senior Designers, but an opening has emerged for a talented junior to assist the team. You’ll pitch in to help us to deliver our projects to the highest standards. This might mean helping to roll out artwork, contributing to presentations, finishing off projects that have already been started by more senior members of the team, building or following brand guidelines, and generally being on hand to assist in the smooth running of the studio, including helping with IE’s internal marketing.

You’ll start with everyday tasks like creating artwork based on existing templates and guidelines, and once we’ve established your level of experience, we’ll help you to get to the next level by providing opportunities for you to get hands-on experience of working on other brand and digital projects coming through the studio. While you won’t have too much direct contact with clients, you will be asked to come along to client calls from time to time and email them directly.

The Person

As a junior role, we’re not expecting the finished article. We’re looking for someone with a great eye for design, who comes already knowing the basics. We’re very happy to train you in certain areas, and to invest in your career, but it’s important you have a good working knowledge of Adobe Suite, and that you have a strong portfolio that shows potential.

If you’re an early-career designer with a passion for design and a thirst for knowledge and progression, this could be the role for you. In your day-to-day work, you’ll be mentored by a Senior Designer, and you’ll be line managed by our Creative Director.

Requirements

  • A good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign (essential)
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office (essential)
  • Experience of designing for digital channels, like social media or WordPress websites (desired)
  • A basic understanding of how to create artwork and send a job to print (essential)
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills (essential)
  • College leavers and graduates (with a design qualification) are welcome to apply, as are early-career designers working at other agencies
