Results of the 2023 Birmingham Design Survey

We’re pleased to reveal the results for our 2023 survey, looking into the working lives of designers and creatives in the West Midlands – proudly supported by Beyond the Book.

The Birmingham Design survey results are here for 2023!

Our fourth study of the local design industry took place at the end of last year and we’ve been crunching the numbers to once again give you a mini insight into what it means for designers to live and work in the West Midlands.

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who took part, your answers are valuable to other designers in the region and beyond.

The results cover core areas such as gender, age and ethnicity. Our goal, as always, is to be able to show a representation of the West Midlands design community. Due to our reach and audience they may not be entirely representative but still give a view of those working in design in the region.

There are no new questions this year but trends and feedback have led us to amend some questions where necessary.

This survey is all about the respondents and their feedback. The survey gave two opportunities to give an opinion on the design industry/community in the West Midlands and Birmingham Design itself. We’ve included a selection of these honest responses throughout the analysis section of the document.

The final report can be downloaded below.

“Being part of the vibrant and growing creative community in Birmingham fills me with immense pride, especially witnessing the exceptional design work that is created in the West Midlands.”

Emma Head
Creative Development Director – Beyond the Book

As always, all feedback is welcome, if you have any comments or questions regarding the survey, please contact the team by email
